I decided to take a break from playing Commodore 64 games. Time to get some real heart pumping action going. What better way than to take on the roles of Riggs and Murtaugh and as you clean up the streets and bring the bad guys to justice.
There's just one little problem. I can't friggin get past the first mission!
Having escaped the Space Dungeon of Vestron (A high tech space prison where inmates are forced to play retro video games), Rygar Starkong set up a fortress from which to review the retro video games that have become his obsession.

C64 Arcade Series #6 - Lode Runner
A classic and a favorite from my childhood. Unfortunately I haven't played this in a good 30 years, so I'm a bit rusty at it! I always enjoyed the animation of the Runner and the enemies in this one, I'm not sure why but somehow it seemed more lifelike than other games to me. That's really funny because these fellas are incredibly tiny and monotone....but somehow.....they seem really alive.

C64 Arcade Series Episode #4 - Kickman
A sort of KaBoom! clone in which you play a dude on a unicycle tying to pop balloons
with your pointy hat. The balloons hover over you via some sort of supernatural means and then drop like freaking bombs. If you miss popping the balloon and it hits the ground, this somehow causes you to fall off of your unicycle. You get three lives. Sort of. If you fall off your damn unicycle all the balloons magically replenish up there in the air. Those bastards!
Oh yeah and it's called Kickman because you can also kick your legs out to bounce the balloons if you can't quite make it over to pop them.....but that makes everything 100 times worse.
Watch me as I flub my way through the first level over and over again......and make it to level two once or twice.
I highly doubt I'll be revisiting this game.
You should probably avoid it too.

C64 Arcade Series Episode #3 - Burger Time!
Join the mighty Starkong as he plays a few rounds of Burger Time while
cracking jokes and even singing a bit of the McDonald's Menu Song from the 80's! Sorta.
A fun 80's arcade classic in which you are a chef trying to construct 4 burgers by walking over the ingredients while avoiding sentient food items such as fried eggs and sausages! Man, someone had a hell of an acid trip.

Starkong LIVES.....and plays Billiards on the C64!
Like a mighty phoenix rising from the ashes of the damned, Rygar Starkong rises to once again take another stab at doing a video game blog. Only THIS time, it's more of a YouTube thing. This blog will be more supplemental than anything, I think. At least at this point....but who knows what the future holds.
Some of you may have been familiar with my horror film review site, Midnight Cinephile. I tried to juggle both that and the Retro Game Fortress, but I just didn't have the time for both. MC has been shut down for a little while now and I've been reconnecting with gaming, which I missed a lot.
I've been having a lot of fun watching Let's Play videos of retro games and I'd like to try my hand at it. If all goes well, I may try doing video reviews as well. I'd like to try my hand at more modern games as well, but we'll see what happens!
For now, enjoy the first in my Commodore 64 Arcade Series (A large collection of games that are lumped together under an ARCADE moniker).
First game: BILLIARDS, which is not very arcadey, I admit.
Feel free to laugh as you watch my fumble my way through my first official video and first playthrough of Billiards. Perhaps I should have figured out the controls first, but where's the fun in that. It's not until there are only a couple balls left on the table that I've been using the aiming mechanism completely wrong. What a difference it made with the last two balls!
